Rio’s Mayor and CMG President Unite to Boost Brazil-China Cultural Ties

November 19, Rio de Janeiro — Rio de Janeiro’s Mayor Eduardo Paes warmly welcomed Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China Media Group (CMG), to City Hall for a pivotal meeting aimed at enhancing cooperation and cultural exchanges between Brazil and China.

Shen Haixiong praised Rio’s vibrant culture, calling it a shining emblem of Brazilian creativity. He highlighted CMG’s progress in collaborating with Brazilian media and film institutions, spanning news reporting, film production, and technological innovation. “We are committed to deepening cultural exchanges with Rio de Janeiro,” Shen emphasized.

Mayor Paes reciprocated, applauding CMG’s efforts in strengthening ties between the two nations. He underscored Rio’s rich cultural assets, from its thriving art scene to its world-famous music and festivals. “We’re excited to work closely with CMG on film production and cultural exchange projects,” Paes expressed.

In a heartfelt gesture, Mayor Paes presented Shen Haixiong with the key to the city, symbolizing the city’s openness and gratitude. “May the friendship between Brazil and China continue to flourish,” Paes declared.

Rio de Janeiro, affectionately known as the “Marvelous City,” is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, iconic landmarks like Copacabana Beach and Sugarloaf Mountain, and vibrant cultural traditions such as samba and bossa nova music. The city has hosted major global events including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, showcasing its status as a cultural and economic hub.

The meeting was attended by key figures from both sides, including officials from CMG and Rio’s City Hall, as well as senior executives from the media, film, and business sectors. This collaboration promises to open new doors for cultural innovation and mutual understanding between Brazil and China.
