China called for a peaceful and diplomatic approach to Iran’s nuclear issue during a recent meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Li Song, China’s permanent representative to the IAEA, emphasized the need for constructive efforts to resolve the matter.
At the meeting, Germany, France, the UK, and the U.S. pushed for a new resolution to pressure Iran. However, China, Russia, and Burkina Faso voted against it, and countries like South Africa, India, and Egypt abstained.
Li highlighted the positive cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, praising the recent visit of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to Iran. He stressed that increasing confrontation won’t help and could complicate the situation further.
“Pressure is not diplomacy,” Li said. “The solution lies in political dialogue and constructive cooperation on international platforms.”
He also pointed out that the 2015 nuclear deal was undermined a few years ago, suggesting that renewed diplomatic efforts are essential for progress.
