Gaza Carpenter Crafts Wooden Shoes to Protect Barefoot Children

In northern Gaza, amid escalating conflict and rising prices, carpenter Saber Dawas is using his skills to address a pressing need in his community: footwear for children. With essential goods like shoes becoming scarce due to ongoing tensions, many families struggle to provide basic necessities for their children.

“Diseases are rampant here, and the children are barefoot. They could get injured,” Dawas explained. Witnessing his own family of six face these challenges motivated him to take action.

Utilizing wood sourced from tents and borrowing tools from neighbors, Dawas began crafting wooden shoes. His initiative not only provides his family with much-needed footwear but also aims to offer affordable options to others in the community.

“The wooden shoes will at least give children something to wear,” he said, hopeful that his efforts will make a difference in the lives of Gaza’s youth.
