A vibrant new media campaign aiming to promote youth exchanges among countries in the Global South kicked off on Monday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The initiative, jointly launched by China Media Group (CMG), the youth engagement group of the G20 known as Y20, and Brazil’s General Secretariat of the Presidency, seeks to build bridges among young people through media, arts, social research, and sports.
During the launch ceremony, an impressive alliance of 215 media organizations from 74 countries announced their commitment to enhancing media cooperation throughout the Global South. CMG President Shen Haixiong expressed optimism about the campaign, emphasizing its goal to create a platform where young people can move forward together in various fields.
“This is more than just a media initiative,” Shen said. “It’s about fostering connections and understanding among the youth of our nations.”
In addition to media collaboration, CMG and local youth and sports organizations in the Americas signed several cooperation agreements in sports broadcasting. These partnerships aim to bring sporting events closer to young audiences, promoting active lifestyles and cultural exchange.
The event was attended by nearly 200 representatives from government, media, cultural, and business institutions across Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and other countries, highlighting the widespread support for initiatives that empower young people and strengthen ties within the Global South.
