Natures Gifts from Africa at 7th China International Import Expo

Africa’s Bountiful Harvest Shines at China’s 7th International Import Expo

The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) is in full swing, and Africa’s abundant natural gifts are stealing the show. From the flavorful cashews of Guinea-Bissau to the aromatic coffee of Tanzania and the sweet pineapples of Benin, African nations are showcasing their finest, opening doors to new markets and collaborations.

Guinea-Bissau: Cashew Capital

Guinea-Bissau is making waves with its cashews. As one of the top ten producers globally, the nation harvests over 250,000 tonnes each year. For many families, cashew farming isn’t just a job—it’s a way of life. Recent efforts to strengthen ties with China mean that these delicious nuts might soon become a staple snack on Chinese tables. The CIIE is playing a key role, acting as a bridge between Guinea-Bissau’s farmers and international buyers.

Tanzania: Coffee and More

Tanzania has been a star at the CIIE for six years running. This year is no different, with its renowned coffee taking center stage. Grown in the rich, volcanic soils around Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzanian coffee boasts a unique flavor that’s hard to beat. But coffee isn’t the only highlight. Tanzanian cashews have become a crowd favorite, and innovative seaweed products—from soaps to teas—are turning heads. As a Guest Country of Honor, Tanzania is proudly sharing its culture and products with the world.

Benin: Pineapples and Possibilities

First-time exhibitor Benin is making a strong impression. Last year, their juicy pineapples were a hit, leading to significant business deals. This year, they’re back with more—including cashews, shea butter, and honey. By participating in the CIIE, Benin is opening up new opportunities for its farmers and producers, showing the world what they have to offer.

Building Bridges

The CIIE isn’t just about products—it’s about people and connections. With 37 least-developed countries participating, the expo provides a platform for nations to come together, share their stories, and build partnerships. For young people in the Global South, these collaborations represent hope and potential for a brighter future.

“It’s inspiring to see our products appreciated on such a big stage,” said a young entrepreneur from Tanzania. “It’s not just about selling goods; it’s about sharing our heritage and connecting with others.”

As the expo continues, the excitement grows. Who knows what new friendships and opportunities will bloom from this gathering of nations?
