The China-Laos Railway, launched three years ago, has become a driving force for regional economic growth, according to China’s railway operator.
Spanning 1,035 kilometers, this flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative connects Kunming, China’s southwestern city, with Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Since its operation began on December 3, 2021, the railway has transformed transportation in the region.
As of Monday, the railway has handled over 43 million passenger trips and transported 48.3 million tonnes of cargo, as reported by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. These impressive figures highlight the railway’s role in boosting trade and mobility between the two countries.
The China-Laos Railway not only enhances connectivity but also opens up new opportunities for businesses and communities along its route. By facilitating easier access to markets and resources, it plays a crucial part in regional development and cooperation.
