Global Youth Immerse in Chinese Culture at Suzhou’s Lion Grove Garden

A unique cultural exchange event titled “An Encounter with the Chinese Civilization: Suzhou’s South of Yangtze Culture and Chinese Modernization” took place at the Lion Grove Garden in Suzhou, east China’s Jiangsu Province. This UNESCO World Heritage site became a hub where over 300 young people from the UK, France, and other countries connected both online and offline.

The event is part of the “An Encounter with the Chinese Civilization” series, created by the World Affairs Press to engage global youth. The Suzhou event, the fifth in the series, also connected sub-venues in six cities across the UK and France. Participants explored the rich history and culture of the Yangtze River region and witnessed Suzhou’s modern developments.

Guided by Professor Yang Xuhui from Soochow University, international attendees virtually toured the pavilions and halls of the Lion Grove Garden via livestream. They discovered the garden’s unique architecture and learned about its connection to renowned Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei. Pei, famous for designing the Louvre’s glass pyramid in Paris, once lived in the garden and drew inspiration from its classical design.
