Beijing, China — China has called on the Philippines to immediately cease alleged airspace intrusions over Huangyan Dao, after a Philippine aircraft reportedly entered the area without permission on Thursday.
The China Coast Guard (CCG) expressed serious concerns over what it described as “illegal intrusion” by the Philippine side. “Huangyan Dao has always been part of China’s territory,” said CCG spokesperson Liu Dejun. “The Philippines’ moves seriously violate China’s sovereignty and could easily lead to unexpected incidents at sea or in the air.”
Huangyan Dao, known internationally as Scarborough Shoal, is a shoal located in the South China Sea. The area has been a point of contention between China and the Philippines, with both countries claiming sovereignty.
The CCG has urged the Philippines to “immediately cease its infringements and provocations” to prevent escalating tensions in the region.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Philippine government regarding the incident.
