Xi Jinping Marks 25 Years Since Macao’s Return to China

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a significant speech on Friday, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China. The event also marked the inauguration of the sixth-term government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Addressing a gathering in Macao, President Xi praised the territory’s achievements over the past quarter-century under the ‘one country, two systems’ framework. He highlighted Macao’s economic growth, social stability, and the preservation of its unique cultural heritage.

The president emphasized the importance of Macao’s role in China’s development and encouraged the region to seize new opportunities for growth. He acknowledged the efforts of the outgoing government and welcomed the new administration, expressing confidence in their ability to lead Macao into a prosperous future.

The ceremony also saw the inauguration of the sixth-term government of the Macao SAR. The new officials pledged to uphold the principles of ‘one country, two systems’ and work towards the well-being of Macao’s residents.

Macao, a former Portuguese colony, was returned to China on December 20, 1999. Since then, it has experienced significant economic expansion, becoming a major global tourism and entertainment hub while maintaining its rich cultural heritage.
