China is set to transform its industrial landscape by building 10,000 5G-powered factories by 2027. According to a recent plan released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the country aims to integrate advanced 5G technology into key sectors of its economy.
The ambitious plan also includes developing no less than 20 pilot cities dedicated to the integrated application of 5G and the industrial internet. This move is expected to accelerate the fusion of information and communication technologies, establishing a new industrial network system driven by data and powered by 5G.
“To meet future industrial demands, we will holistically consider technologies such as 5G-A, AI, new industrial control systems, and industrial computing power,” said Tang Libo from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. “This will enhance coordination between the industrial internet and key industrial chains, fostering a high-quality development ecosystem.”
Currently, China boasts over 17,000 5G+ industrial internet projects, covering all 41 major industrial sectors. With more than 4,000 5G factories already built—and 700 recognized as high-level by the MIIT—the country is demonstrating significant applications of 5G in industries like manufacturing, mining, power, and ports.
This significant push towards 5G integration reflects China’s commitment to technological advancement and its vision for a digitally connected future.
