In a tragic incident on Wednesday, a man drove a pickup truck down Bourbon Street in New Orleans, leaving 10 people dead and over 35 injured. The city’s police chief, Anne Kirkpatrick, described the driver’s actions as “very intentional behavior,” stating he was “trying to run over as many people as he possibly could.”
During the chaos, the suspect also opened fire from his vehicle, shooting two police officers who are now in stable condition. Mayor LaToya Cantrell referred to the incident as a terrorist attack and has urged residents and visitors to avoid the area as investigations continue.
“The City of New Orleans was impacted by a terrorist attack,” Mayor Cantrell said during a press briefing. “We are working diligently to uncover all details and ensure the safety of our community.”
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the attack, and emergency services are on the scene assisting victims and securing the area.
