Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on law societies across the nation to strengthen their role as bridges in advancing legal governance. In a letter to the ninth congress of the China Law Society, which commenced on Friday, Xi emphasized the importance of law societies in promoting the rule of law and serving the broader goals of the Party and the country.
He urged law societies at all levels to enhance legal research, support practical applications of the rule of law, raise public legal awareness, and train legal professionals. Xi highlighted the need for legal scholars and practitioners to bolster confidence in the legal system and dedicate themselves to the critical task of advancing law-based governance.
Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, addressed the opening of the congress. He expressed hope that legal professionals would contribute to sound legislation, strict law enforcement, impartial justice, and widespread adherence to the law, thereby aiding in advancing Chinese modernization.
