As the United States prepares for the upcoming presidential inauguration, Washington D.C. has significantly heightened security measures, sealing off numerous streets and readying itself for an influx of crowds. Law enforcement personnel are on high alert, ensuring the safety of the nation’s capital during this historic event.
Many streets surrounding key landmarks such as the Capitol Building and the White House have been closed off with fences and barricades. For several days, workers have been erecting barriers to secure the areas where inauguration activities will take place. Additional checkpoints have been established to monitor and control access to these zones.
“The safety of everyone attending the inauguration is our top priority,” said a spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service. “We have expanded the security perimeter and are working closely with local and federal agencies to ensure a secure environment.”
National Guard units have been deployed throughout the city, with thousands of personnel on duty. In addition to street closures, several subway stations will be temporarily shut down on Inauguration Day. Bridges and ramps connecting Virginia to Washington D.C. may also face closures to manage the flow of people and vehicles.
Despite chilly temperatures expected to dip to minus five degrees Celsius, supporters and attendees have begun gathering in the capital. Some have waited in line for hours to participate in events leading up to the inauguration. Long queues stretched for several blocks, with people braving the cold and possible winter weather.
“Even though the weather is tough, I’m thrilled to be here,” said Leah Aguanno, who traveled from Westfield, New Jersey. “It’s a moment in history, and I wanted to be a part of it.”
The presidential inauguration is scheduled to take place at noon, marking the official swearing-in of the new president. With an estimated 25,000 law enforcement officers on duty, authorities are working diligently to ensure a smooth and safe transition of power.
