Beijing, China — Gashi Wangmo, a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), has witnessed significant improvements in elderly care in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. Speaking at the Deputies’ Corridor on Wednesday, she shared her experiences and insights with the media.
As the director of an elderly care center in Barkam City, located in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Gashi has been dedicated to enhancing the quality of care for seniors since she assumed the position in 2019. “Our focus has been on improving the skills of our staff to ensure that our elderly residents receive the best possible care,” she said.
Now in her 30s, Gashi began her journey in the elderly care industry at the age of 18. Over the years, she has become a passionate advocate for the welfare of the elderly and the development of the industry. This year marks her third term as an NPC deputy, where she continues to champion causes close to her heart.
Her proposals at this year’s NPC session center on three key areas: improving welfare for young staff in the elderly care sector, increasing investment in the industry, and encouraging enterprises to participate more actively. “By supporting our staff and investing in infrastructure, we can create a better environment for our seniors,” Gashi emphasized.
The Deputies’ Corridor provides a platform for NPC deputies to engage with the public and the media. Before the opening of the third session of the 14th NPC at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, deputies like Gashi took the opportunity to share their work and answer questions.
With dedicated individuals like Gashi leading the way, the future of elderly care in Sichuan and across China looks promising.
