A new white paper released by China’s State Council Information Office on Friday highlights significant improvements in the protection of economic and social rights in Xizang Autonomous Region. Titled “Human Rights in Xizang in the New Era”, the document outlines advancements in the rights to an adequate standard of living, education, work, health, and social security for local residents.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, Xizang has implemented a series of measures to alleviate and eradicate poverty. These initiatives include boosting new industries, relocating people from uninhabitable areas, compensating for ecological conservation efforts, enhancing education, and securing social assistance to meet basic needs.
By the end of 2019, all 628,000 registered impoverished individuals in the region had been lifted out of poverty, according to the white paper. Following this achievement, China continued with its rural revitalization strategy to consolidate and expand the outcomes achieved.
The improvements in Xizang reflect the ongoing efforts to enhance living standards and protect human rights across the region. The focus on sustainable development aims to ensure that all residents share in the benefits of economic growth.
