Yangon-Mandalay Railway and Airport Reopen After Earthquake Repairs

The Yangon-Mandalay railway line and Mandalay International Airport have resumed operations after swift repairs following a major earthquake on March 28.

The earthquake caused significant damage, bending tracks and damaging 60 embankments and 11 railway bridges along the Yangon-Mandalay line. Teams from Myanma Railways worked tirelessly, using manpower and machinery to restore the railway.

To ensure safety, freight trains tested the tracks on April 3, followed by passenger trains on April 4. Confident in the repairs, passenger services officially resumed on the morning of April 5.

Meanwhile, Mandalay International Airport reopened for domestic flights on April 4. By April 5, four local airlines had operated 13 flights, transporting a total of 972 passengers.

Other railway routes, including the Yangon-Pyay and Yangon-Mawlamyine lines, continued to operate as usual throughout this period.
