The Trump administration’s use of tariffs is provoking the global economy and aiming to address domestic issues by dismantling economic globalization, according to Alexander Rahr, Research Director of the German-Russian Forum. In an interview with China Media Group, Rahr expressed concern over the United States’ trade policies under President Donald Trump.
“The US is trying to use tariffs to force changes in its favor, but this approach is a provocation to the entire global economy,” Rahr stated. He emphasized that such unilateral measures could lead to increased tensions and instability in international trade.
Rahr warned that the imposition of tariffs not only affects the targeted countries but also disrupts global supply chains and economic cooperation. “This strategy undermines the principles of free trade and could have long-term negative impacts on global economic growth,” he said.
The expert highlighted that the US is attempting to solve its domestic economic problems by shifting the burden onto other nations. “By dismantling aspects of economic globalization, the US is isolating itself and potentially triggering a trade war that benefits no one,” Rahr explained.
He called for dialogue and cooperative solutions to address economic challenges, rather than resorting to protectionist policies. “International cooperation is essential in today’s interconnected world. Countries should work together to improve the global economy, not weaken it through confrontational tactics,” Rahr concluded.
