Born and raised in the ancient city of Kashi, also known as Kashgar, in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local artist Kurbanjan uses his paintbrush to capture the unique charm and rich cultural heritage of his hometown.
In his collections such as Kashi in Sunshine and New Looks of Kashi’s Ancient City, Kurbanjan employs bold colors and expressive strokes to depict the city’s stunning ancient architecture, winding alleys, and vibrant marketplaces. “Every time I walk through the streets of Kashi, I discover new inspiration,” he says. “There is always a new angle, a new story waiting to be painted.”
His artwork offers a vivid narration of the daily lives of Kashi’s residents, showcasing the hustle and bustle of the city’s thriving markets and the warmth of its community.
