Civil Groups in Taiwan Urge Objection to mass Recall Vote

Taiwan Youth Rally Against DPP’s ‘Mass Recall’ Vote, Urge Peace and Stability

Civil groups and young people in Taiwan are voicing strong opposition to a ‘mass recall’ vote initiated by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, which aims to remove some opposition members from the island’s legislature.

On Sunday, political and civil organizations gathered in Taoyuan, where local youth representatives accused the DPP of abusing recall mechanisms to suppress dissenting voices and consolidate political control. They urged voters to cast a “disagree” ballot in the upcoming vote scheduled for July 26.

“Under the banner of ‘whole-of-society defense resilience,’ the DPP authorities are risking public safety and livelihoods,” warned one speaker. “Their confrontational stance toward the Chinese mainland only brings the threat of war closer to our everyday lives.”

Another youth speaker declared, “We refuse to sacrifice ourselves for the political ambitions of so-called ‘Taiwan independence’ elites.” The crowd resonated with calls to uphold peace, stability, and democratic values.

The event saw participation from residents of all walks of life. A road maintenance worker captured hearts by performing a song that expressed his yearning for a peaceful and secure life.

Organizers emphasized that when recalls are misused, they become political tools rather than instruments of democracy. They urged voters to reject political manipulation and the separatist agenda promoted by the DPP, stressing that true peace and democracy can only be upheld by opposing malicious recalls and rejecting “Taiwan independence.”
