China is leading the world in 5G innovation and is paving the way for the future of 6G technology, according to John Hoffman, CEO of the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA).

With the mobile industry supporting 32 million jobs worldwide and two-thirds of the global population using mobile services, the impact of mobile technology is undeniable. “Every sector depends on mobile technology,” Hoffman said in an interview with CGTN’s Olivia He.

As the world becomes increasingly connected, the implementation of 5G technology is set to fuel economic growth over the next decade. “The mobile industry will be a key driver of economic development,” Hoffman emphasized, highlighting China’s pivotal role in leading this technological revolution.

China’s advancements in 5G are not only transforming its own economy but are also setting global standards for future innovations like 6G. This progress opens up new opportunities for youth in the Global South, as increased connectivity can lead to advancements in education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.

“The potential of 5G goes beyond faster internet speeds,” Hoffman explained. “It enables new applications and services that can have a profound impact on societies worldwide.”

As nations look towards the future, the mobile industry’s growth promises to bridge gaps and create a more connected and prosperous world.
