Shanghai has taken a significant step to boost its used car export industry by launching China’s first in-port used car export inspection point on Wednesday. The new Shanghai Port Used Car Export Comprehensive Service Center aims to make the export process more efficient and cost-effective for businesses.
The service center offers one-stop solutions for vehicle registration and port logistics, simplifying procedures for used car export enterprises in Shanghai and neighboring provinces. According to Zhang Wen, general manager of Shanghai Leiyin Car Service Co., Ltd., this development will greatly improve capital turnover rates and enhance time efficiency for companies involved in used car exports.
“Previously, used cars had to be transported to a vehicle management office within Shanghai for transfer procedures before heading to the port,” Zhang explained. “The new center streamlines this process, reducing transportation costs and processing time.”
China began a pilot program for used car exports in 2019 across ten cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Qingdao. The initiative has seen rapid growth since expanding nationwide in March. In 2023, China exported 275,000 used cars, generating $6.88 billion in revenue, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce.
As one of the first pilot cities, Shanghai has witnessed a growing demand for used car exports. To support this growth, the Shanghai municipal government has introduced measures to optimize the export process further, enhancing the city’s international business environment.
This new service center is expected to bolster Shanghai’s position in the global used car market, offering more opportunities for businesses and contributing to the city’s economic development.
