World Internet Conference 2024 Unveils AI Innovations and Global Cooperation

The 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit wrapped up its four-day event on Friday in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, China. Attracting over 1,800 guests from more than 130 countries and regions, the summit spotlighted global cooperation and innovative potential in the digital sphere.

Under the theme “Embracing a People-Centered and AI-For-Good Digital Future – Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace”, the conference hosted 24 sub-forums. Discussions ranged from the Global Development Initiative and the digital economy to artificial intelligence (AI) technology governance. Attendees explored the latest trends and challenges in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

A highlight of the summit was the Light of Internet Expo, where more than 40 large AI models and vertical AI models were showcased. The expo featured 665 enterprises from 53 countries and regions, including Russia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Singapore. Visitors had the opportunity to interact with cutting-edge AI products and discover new avenues for industrial collaboration.

According to a report released by the Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies during the forum, China now boasts nearly 10,000 digitalized workshops and smart factories nationwide. The report emphasized the significant role AI plays in driving industrial digitalization across the country.

The report also highlighted that by the end of 2023, China held 378,000 valid AI invention patents, marking an annual growth of 40 percent—1.4 times the global average growth rate. These figures underscore China’s accelerating progress in AI innovation and its commitment to becoming a global leader in the digital economy.
