China has announced a bold new action plan aimed at revamping its trade system and propelling the development of wholesale and retail industries. The plan, released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Commerce alongside eight other government agencies, sets forth objectives to establish a comprehensive and efficient trade network by 2027.
The initiative focuses on connecting domestic and international markets, bridging urban and rural areas, and strengthening the link between production and sales. One of the key projects highlighted is the upgrading of rural markets, with a significant push to transform local stores and markets across the countryside.
By enhancing logistics and distribution systems in rural regions, China aims to improve the flow of goods and bridge gaps in cold chain logistics for agricultural products. This includes improving infrastructure at the county, township, and village levels to ensure fresher fruits, vegetables, and meats reach consumers.
The country has set ambitious targets to increase the cold chain circulation rate to 25% for fruits and vegetables, and 45% for meat products. This move is expected to reduce waste, improve food safety, and boost rural economies.
In addition to physical infrastructure, the plan emphasizes the importance of digitalization, automation, and sustainability in commerce and logistics. By embracing cutting-edge technologies, China seeks to modernize its trade systems and promote integrated domestic and international development.
This comprehensive strategy reflects China’s commitment to fostering high-quality development and ensuring that growth benefits all regions, including rural areas.
