China Plans Boost in Economy and Football at State Council Meeting

Chinese Premier Li Qiang chaired a significant State Council executive meeting on Monday, outlining ambitious plans to stimulate the nation’s economy and revitalize its football industry.

At the meeting, officials emphasized the importance of proactive measures to implement decisions made at the recent Central Economic Work Conference. Authorities were urged to develop detailed strategies with clear timelines to ensure smooth progress across various initiatives.

Economic Growth Through Special Bonds

The council discussed optimizing the management of special-purpose bonds for local governments. Plans include allowing these bonds to fund land reserves and support the acquisition of existing commercial housing for affordable housing projects. The scope of special bonds usable as project capital will also be expanded.

“Enhancing the efficiency of bond issuance and increasing the autonomy of local governments are crucial steps towards economic recovery and growth,” the meeting noted. The effective issuance and utilization of special bonds next year are expected to underpin China’s ongoing economic resurgence.

Advancing Government Investment Funds

Measures to promote the high-quality development of government investment funds were also on the agenda. The emphasis was on operating these funds in a market-oriented, law-based, and professional manner. Strengthening accountability mechanisms and fostering an innovative environment are key goals.

Focus on Work Safety

The meeting reviewed a three-year campaign aimed at improving work safety. Officials highlighted the need to thoroughly investigate major risks and hidden dangers to safeguard people’s lives and property, especially during the year-end period.

Revitalizing the Football Industry

A notable highlight for young audiences was the focus on revitalizing China’s football industry. Recognized as a pivotal element in transforming China into a strong sports nation, the meeting called for intensified efforts to advance football development. This includes implementing measures to boost the sport at all levels, potentially opening new opportunities for aspiring athletes.

The meeting concluded with the approval of a draft regulation on managing China’s public security video image information system, aiming to enhance public safety and security.
