China has firmly opposed the United States’ initiation of a Section 301 investigation into China’s semiconductor industry policies. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Monday expressed strong dissatisfaction, labeling the U.S. move as \”unilateral and protectionist.\”
The ministry stated that the investigation disrupts and distorts global semiconductor industrial and supply chains, ultimately harming the interests of businesses and consumers in the U.S. and worldwide.
\”The U.S. has provided substantial subsidies to its own chip industry through legislation such as the CHIPS and Science Act,\” the ministry pointed out. Despite U.S. semiconductor companies holding about 50% of the global market share, Chinese-made chips account for only 1.3% of the U.S. market.
The ministry cited a recent report from the U.S. Department of Commerce, highlighting that Chinese chip exports to the U.S. are significantly lower than imports from the U.S.
China called on the United States to respect facts and multilateral rules, urging an immediate halt to what it terms as \”erroneous practices.\” The ministry emphasized that it will closely monitor the investigation’s progress and take all necessary measures to resolutely defend its rights and interests.
