Chinas Foreign Trade steady in First Two Months of 2025

China’s Foreign Trade Steady in Early 2025 Amid Global Challenges

China’s foreign trade continued to show resilience in the first two months of 2025, with the total volume of goods trade reaching 6.54 trillion yuan (approximately $912.07 billion), according to the General Administration of Customs on Friday.

While this marked a slight decrease of 1.2 percent compared to the same period last year, officials highlighted that after accounting for factors such as two fewer working days in 2025, the total imports and exports actually grew by 1.7 percent year on year.

Exports saw a positive uptick, rising 3.4 percent from the previous year to hit 3.88 trillion yuan. Imports, however, experienced a 7.3 percent decline year on year.

Trade with key partners showed promising trends. Exports to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) increased by 6.8 percent, exports to the European Union rose by 1.8 percent, and exports to the United States grew by 3.4 percent. Notably, exports to countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative saw a 2.4 percent increase.

The steady performance of China’s foreign trade in early 2025 reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to navigate global economic challenges and strengthen trade relationships across the world.
