China’s Domestic Tourism and Inbound Arrivals Surge in 2024

China is experiencing a significant boost in domestic tourism and inbound arrivals in 2024. According to Sun Yeli, China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Chinese travel agencies have reported a 10 percent increase in revenue this year.

Speaking at the Ministers’ Corridor after the closing meeting of the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Sun highlighted that people’s tourism consumption behavior is evolving. “Before, they purchased products out of need, whereas now they mainly pay for services to gain a deeper level of satisfaction,” he said.

Sun cited the success of the Chinese animated film “Nezha 2,” which has grossed nearly 15 billion yuan ($2.07 billion). He emphasized that with good products, services, projects, and designs, businesses can thrive in the cultural and tourism sector.

However, Sun also noted that China still lags behind in infrastructure spending and needs to strengthen weak links. He emphasized that culture and tourism are key pillars of China’s economy and revealed plans to improve regulations and standards to ensure credibility in the sector.
