Experts have lauded China’s efforts in tackling climate change while boosting economic growth, highlighting the nation’s significant role on the global stage. During a recent debate on CGTN’s Talking China, Wang Wen, dean of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China, emphasized that although China produces about 30% of the world’s industrial products, the associated carbon emissions are often unfairly attributed solely to China, despite the products being consumed worldwide.
“China’s per capita carbon emissions are only half of those of the United States,” Wang pointed out, criticizing the previous U.S. administration’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement.
Li Cheng, founding director of the Center on Contemporary China and the World at the University of Hong Kong, echoed these sentiments. He described climate change denial as “extremely dangerous” and asserted that China’s policies successfully balance economic growth with environmental protection. Li highlighted China’s advancements in new energy development and the promotion of electric vehicles as evidence of the nation’s commitment.
The experts agreed that China’s actions are crucial in the global fight against climate change and serve as a model for other nations striving to balance development with environmental responsibility.
