HK’s ‘Super Connector’ Role to Boost China’s Growth, Says Dr. Henry Tan

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) is poised to play a pivotal role in China’s economic growth by acting as a “super connector” in fisheries modernization, industrial upgrading, and international cooperation, according to Dr. Henry Tan, a prominent business leader and member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Speaking at the nation’s Two Sessions—a key political event where major policies are discussed—Dr. Tan emphasized the importance of the private economy in driving China’s future development. “Hong Kong’s unique strengths position it to facilitate significant advancements in various sectors,” he said in an interview.

Dr. Tan highlighted that Hong Kong’s global connections and advanced industries make it an ideal hub for fostering cooperation between China and the rest of the world. “Our city can bridge resources, technology, and expertise, contributing to China’s goals for modernization and innovation,” he remarked.

The focus on the private economy and industrial innovation aligns with China’s broader agenda for sustainable growth and technological progress by 2025. Hong Kong’s role as a connector could be instrumental in achieving these national objectives.

The Two Sessions continue to underscore the strategic importance of leveraging regional strengths to bolster the country’s economic trajectory. As Dr. Tan suggests, Hong Kong’s active participation may be a key component in China’s path forward.
