China Says Us Tariffs Highlight Unilateralism Protectionism

China Calls U.S. Tariffs Unilateral and Protectionist

China is calling out the United States over new tariffs on Chinese products, saying the move is unfair and goes against global trade rules.

“These U.S. tariffs don’t help their national security or their industries. They just show unilateralism and protectionism,” said He Yongqian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce, on Thursday.

He pointed out that both the Section 301 and Section 232 tariffs have been deemed by the World Trade Organization to violate international trade agreements.

“China has always believed that these tariffs, claimed to be for ‘national security,’ are actually just unilateral and protectionist,” He added. “We, along with many other countries, strongly oppose these measures and urge the U.S. to cancel the Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum immediately.”

China is urging the U.S. to follow global trade rules and work together for fair trade that benefits both sides.
