US Tariff Uncertainty Worries Global CEOs, Says Industry Leader Martin Sorrell

Global business leaders are feeling uneasy due to the unpredictability surrounding US tariffs, leading to delayed decisions and heightened risks, according to Martin Sorrell, founder and executive chairman of S4 Capital. Speaking at the China Development Forum 2023 on Sunday, Sorrell highlighted the impact of trade tensions on international markets.

“CEOs are uncomfortable with the uncertainty and risks introduced by US tariffs,” Sorrell said during an interview with CGTN. “This unpredictability makes it difficult for businesses to plan ahead, which is crucial for growth and innovation.”

Sorrell, a prominent figure in the advertising industry, emphasized that stable trade policies are essential for fostering confidence among business leaders. The delays in decision-making caused by tariff concerns could hinder economic development, particularly in emerging markets.

“Young entrepreneurs and businesses in the Global South are especially affected,” he noted. “They rely on a stable global economy to expand and reach new heights.”

The China Development Forum, held in Beijing, serves as a platform for dialogue between international businesses and Chinese policymakers, addressing key global economic issues. Discussions like these are vital for finding common ground and promoting cooperation in the face of trade uncertainties.
