UNDP Official: China Leads the World in Green Energy

At the Boao Forum for Asia 2025, Beate Trankmann, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative in China, announced that China has become the world leader in green energy.

“China already accounts for a third of global solar and wind power installed capacity,” Trankmann said during an interview with CGTN’s Aaron Liu.

She highlighted China’s significant strides in renewable energy development and emphasized the country’s potential to further advance in power grid infrastructure and market regulation.

“China has made remarkable progress in green energy, but there is still room for improvement, especially in upgrading its power grid and refining market mechanisms,” Trankmann added.

Her comments underscore the growing importance of renewable energy in combating climate change and the pivotal role China plays in global sustainability efforts.

The Boao Forum for Asia, often referred to as the “Asian Davos,” brings together leaders and experts to discuss pressing economic and environmental issues facing the region.

As the world looks toward a greener future, China’s leadership in renewable energy serves as a beacon for other nations striving to reduce carbon emissions and embrace sustainable development.

Trankmann expressed optimism that with continued investment and policy support, China can further drive innovation and set new standards in the global green energy sector.

“By enhancing its power grid and implementing effective regulations, China can maximize the impact of its renewable energy advancements,” she concluded.
