China Unveils New Policies to Boost Education and Social Welfare

China’s State Council Information Office announced a series of new policies on Tuesday aimed at improving the well-being of its citizens. Officials from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the National Health Commission attended the press conference.

Massive Investment in Education

The Ministry of Finance revealed that the national budget for education expenditure is set to approach 4.5 trillion yuan ($626 billion). This substantial investment aims to enhance the quality of education across the nation. The Ministry of Education plans to achieve full coverage of standardized construction in compulsory education schools within the next five years. Additionally, universities will receive support to improve educational facilities and promote the allocation of higher education resources to the central and western regions.

Enhanced Social Security and Pensions

To strengthen social welfare, social security and employment expenditures are also expected to reach 4.5 trillion yuan. The government announced an increase of 20 yuan in the minimum monthly basic pension for urban and rural residents. Basic pensions for retirees will also be appropriately raised to ensure timely and full disbursement.

Improving Childcare and Elderly Care

A new childcare subsidy system will be established to support families. The government plans to strengthen community-supported home-based elderly care services and improve care for elderly individuals who are unable to take care of themselves.

Advancements in Healthcare Services

The National Health Commission proposed increasing the supply of affordable childcare services and enhancing their quality. There will be a push to develop childcare services supported by medical institutions, integrating healthcare and childcare for better overall service.

These comprehensive policies demonstrate China’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its people, focusing on education, social security, healthcare, and support for both the young and the elderly.
