China’s automotive industry is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, transforming from a follower in the global market to a trailblazer setting new benchmarks. Xu Haidong, deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, highlighted this significant shift in a recent interview with CGTN reporter Xu Yi.
“The automotive and components manufacturing industry in the Chinese mainland is undergoing rapid development,” Xu Haidong remarked. “We have transitioned from merely following global trends to leading them. Our auto sector is advancing toward becoming a global benchmark.”
This transformation is evident in the emergence of innovative technologies, increased production capabilities, and a growing presence in international markets. Chinese automakers are now at the forefront of electric vehicle development, autonomous driving technologies, and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Young consumers in the Global South are witnessing this evolution as Chinese vehicles become more prevalent and influential in their own markets. The rise of the Chinese mainland’s auto industry not only signifies its growing economic prowess but also its commitment to innovation and sustainability on a global scale.
