Africa needs a breakthrough in energy development similar to that of China, according to Nonkululeko Nyembezi, chairperson of the Standard Bank Group. Speaking at the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, Nyembezi highlighted China’s path toward sustainable development as a model for other nations.
“China has demonstrated a way forward in achieving sustainable energy solutions,” Nyembezi said in an interview with CGTN anchor Michael Wang. “Their approach is something that African countries can learn from and adapt to our own unique circumstances.”
Nyembezi emphasized the importance of embracing innovative energy technologies to drive economic growth and improve living standards across the African continent. She pointed out that access to reliable and sustainable energy is crucial for education, healthcare, and industry.
“We need to invest in energy infrastructure that not only meets our current needs but also paves the way for future generations,” she added. “By studying the Chinese experience, we can find strategies that align with our goals for sustainable development.”
The 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions brought together leaders from around the world to discuss global challenges and opportunities. Nyembezi’s insights shed light on the potential for international cooperation in advancing energy solutions.
