Global Collaboration Needed to Harness AI for All, Says Chinese AI Expert

Countries around the world should unite to harness artificial intelligence (AI) for the benefit of all, according to Zeng Yi, dean of the Beijing Institute of AI Safety and Governance. In an interview with CGTN, Zeng emphasized the importance of bridging the digital and AI divide to ensure equitable access to AI infrastructure.

“It is crucial that we enable more access to AI technologies and leave no one behind,” Zeng said. He highlighted that as AI continues to advance rapidly, disparities in access and development could widen unless proactive steps are taken.

Zeng called for international collaboration to address these challenges. “Countries should come together to realize AI for good and for all,” he urged. By working together, nations can develop policies and frameworks that promote the responsible use of AI while mitigating potential risks.

The dean also pointed out that global cooperation is essential for setting ethical standards and sharing best practices in AI development. “We need a collective effort to ensure that AI technologies are developed and deployed in ways that benefit humanity as a whole,” he stated.

For many countries in the Global South, accessing AI infrastructure remains a significant hurdle. Zeng suggested that developed nations and international organizations could play a pivotal role in supporting these regions through investments and knowledge sharing.

“By bridging the digital divide, we can empower communities, drive innovation, and foster economic growth,” Zeng concluded. “It’s not just about technology; it’s about people and their futures.”
