China and Europe must join forces to lead the world’s energy transition, according to Stientje van Veldhoven, Vice President and Regional Director for Europe of the World Resources Institute (WRI). In a recent interview, she emphasized that with the United States stepping aside, collaboration between China and Europe is more crucial than ever for global climate governance.
“The challenges of climate change require collective action, and China and Europe are in a unique position to drive the global agenda forward,” van Veldhoven said. She highlighted that both regions have made significant strides in renewable energy and have the capacity to influence global policies.
Van Veldhoven pointed out that China’s advancements in green technology and Europe’s commitment to sustainability create a strong foundation for partnership. “By working together, we can accelerate innovation, promote sustainable practices, and ensure a better future for all,” she added.
Her comments underscore the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change and transitioning to clean energy sources. As major players on the world stage, China and Europe’s joint efforts could pave the way for significant progress in global energy transformation.
