China is seeing a significant increase in lung cancer cases among women, according to leading medical experts. Dr. Qiao Youlin, deputy secretary general of the Cancer Foundation of China (CFC), highlighted a shift in smoking habits among Chinese women.
“In the past, smoking was uncommon among Chinese women. In recent years, however, women have begun to view smoking as a fashion statement,” Dr. Qiao remarked during the 40th anniversary meeting of the CFC.
Dr. Qiao emphasized the importance of early screening and tobacco control as key measures to prevent lung cancer at an early stage.
November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month, an initiative launched by the Global Lung Cancer Coalition in 2001, aiming to raise awareness and promote advancements in treatment.
With smoking increasingly perceived as fashionable among young women, health experts are urging greater public awareness about the risks associated with tobacco use. Early education and proactive health screenings are critical in combating the rise of lung cancer cases.
