Chinese President Xi Jinping is calling for a fresh approach to Marxism, urging efforts to adapt it to China’s modern context and needs. He believes that blending Marxism with China’s unique realities and rich traditional culture can spark new innovations in philosophy and social sciences.
At a recent conference in Beijing on the study and development of Marxist theory, Xi emphasized the importance of this 20-year-old project, which has played a key role in promoting the Communist Party’s innovative ideas and strengthening Marxism’s influence in China.
“We need to enhance theoretical research and public communication,” Xi stated, highlighting the necessity for people, especially the youth, to understand the Party’s new theories. He also called for accelerating the creation of an independent knowledge system for Chinese philosophy and social sciences, and nurturing top-tier thinkers in these fields.
Cai Qi, a high-ranking member of the Communist Party, attended the conference and echoed Xi’s sentiments. He encouraged deeper studies of Marxism’s core principles, addressing China’s specific challenges, and exploring the modern relevance of China’s traditional culture to boost theoretical innovation.
The push to modernize Marxism aims to keep it relevant in today’s rapidly changing world, ensuring it continues to guide China’s development and resonate with the younger generation.
