China Calls for Peace Talks Amid Ceasefire in Northern Myanmar

China is calling for dialogue and a ceasefire in northern Myanmar, urging all parties to engage in peaceful discussions to end ongoing conflicts. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized the importance of stability in the region during a statement on Wednesday.

On Tuesday night, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), a rebel group in northern Myanmar, announced a ceasefire and expressed willingness to engage in peace talks with the Myanmar army under China’s mediation.

“We commend the MNDAA’s recent positive remarks,” Lin Jian said. “All parties should prioritize stability and resolve differences through peaceful means. They should avoid actions that could escalate tensions or endanger the security of China’s border areas, Chinese residents, and Chinese enterprises in Myanmar.”

China has pledged to continue supporting the peace process in northern Myanmar and will facilitate dialogue between conflicting parties. Lin reiterated China’s commitment to fostering a harmonious and secure environment in the border regions.
