China’s Foreign Ministry has defended the country’s recent measures in the Huangyan Dao region, asserting that they are “justified, lawful, professional, and restrained.” Spokesperson Lin Jian reaffirmed China’s longstanding claim over Huangyan Dao, emphasizing that the territory has always been part of China.
In response to actions by the Philippines, including sending Coast Guard and official vessels into the area, Lin stated that China took necessary steps to protect its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights in accordance with the law.
“We urge the Philippines to stop its infringement activities and provocations at once,” Lin said. “Any challenges to China’s firm resolve to defend its lawful rights and interests will not be tolerated.”
Tensions have risen in the South China Sea as both China and the Philippines assert their claims over disputed territories. Huangyan Dao, also known internationally as Scarborough Shoal, has become a focal point in these disputes.
Lin called for calm and restraint, urging all parties to engage in dialogue to maintain peace and stability in the region.
