China clinched their sixth consecutive victory at the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup in Chengdu, sweeping past Hong Kong SAR 8-0 on Thursday. Earlier in the day, China defeated South Korea 8-4, showcasing their dominance in the tournament.
In a strategic move, China altered their lineup against Hong Kong SAR. Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha teamed up in the mixed doubles against Yiu Kwan To and Ng Wing Lam. It was their first match as partners since the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The duo displayed impeccable coordination, securing a decisive 11-4, 11-6, 11-4 victory.
"I was a little concerned before the match," Wang admitted. "During practice, I reminded myself of the details from when we played together in mixed doubles. Our performance tonight was better than I expected."
Sun echoed his sentiments, saying, "It had been a long time since we paired at the Paris Olympics. We played well this time."
Next, Wang Manyu took the stage in the women’s singles against Doo Hoi Kem. The two had previously faced off at the World Table Tennis Cup Finals in Singapore in 2021, where Wang emerged victorious. Maintaining her edge, Wang dominated the match with scores of 11-8, 11-4, 11-2.
In the men’s singles, Lin Shidong represented China and continued his impressive run, being the only team member to have played in all six matches. He defeated Chan Baldwin 11-3, 11-4, sealing the win for the hosts.
China is set to face Japan on Friday, aiming to extend their winning streak.
