Ambassador Xie About 14000 Young Americans Visited China in 2024

14,000 Young Americans Visit China, Strengthening Ties

Over the past year, approximately 14,000 American youths have journeyed to China for exchange and study programs, marking a significant step in fostering understanding between the two nations. This surge follows China’s pledge to invite 50,000 young Americans over the next five years, as announced by President Xi Jinping last November.

Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, highlighted this development during an event promoting China-U.S. youth exchanges at the Chinese embassy in Washington on Friday. “The initiative has provided an effective platform that brings our youths closer, opened up an important window for better understanding China, and ushered in a new chapter of friendship between the Chinese and American peoples,” he remarked.

The Young Envoys Scholarship (YES) program was established to implement this initiative, offering opportunities for American students to experience Chinese culture and education firsthand. Ambassador Xie emphasized the importance of continuing these exchanges despite past challenges. “Much remains to be done to continue removing disruptions, stay undaunted by the chilling effect, oppose any backpedaling, and move forward hand in hand,” he said.

He encouraged youths from both countries to “take up the baton of history” and work towards a “stable, sound, and sustainable” relationship. The event drew over 300 guests, including teachers and students who participated in the exchange programs, as well as Chinese and American community members.

Panel discussions during the event allowed participants to share their experiences and express hopes for ongoing educational cooperation that benefits both nations and the world at large.
