China and Vietnam Forge Stronger Bonds Ahead of Historic Milestone
China and Vietnam have pledged to deepen their cooperation as they approach a significant landmark in their relationship. On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in Beijing to co-chair the 16th meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation.
With the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations looming next year, both nations are looking to enhance their strategic partnership. “China is willing to work with Vietnam to plan the next stage of cooperation from a strategic and long-term perspective,” Wang Yi stated. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges and targeted cooperation to support each other’s modernization efforts.
The two countries are set to celebrate the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges next year, aiming to foster stronger ties between their citizens. Plans include increasing cultural exchanges and opening more flights between China and Vietnam, making travel easier and more accessible.
Economic collaboration is also high on the agenda. Both sides are looking to build a stable and efficient cross-border industrial and supply chain, and to strengthen cooperation in emerging sectors. By working together, they hope to create opportunities that benefit both economies.
Security and diplomatic relations were key topics during their discussions. The two nations held the first meeting of the “3+3” strategic dialogue mechanism on diplomacy, defense, and public security, aiming to consolidate their security foundation. They also commemorated important milestones, marking 25 years since the demarcation of their land boundary and 15 years since the signing of key legal documents on border management.
Bui Thanh Son expressed Vietnam’s commitment to implementing the consensus reached by both nations’ leaders. “Vietnam is ready to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China in various fields,” he said. This includes collaboration in economy and trade, infrastructure, agriculture, culture, and local affairs.
As China and Vietnam look to the future, their strengthened partnership holds promise for continued growth and stability in the region.
