An explosion at a residential building in Shenzhen, China, claimed the life of one person on Wednesday afternoon, local authorities reported. No other injuries have been reported.
The city’s fire and rescue services received an emergency call at 2:46 p.m. regarding the incident in Nanshan District. In response, they dispatched 16 fire engines and 80 firefighters to the scene.
After hours of battling the blaze, firefighters successfully extinguished the fire by 6 p.m. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
Residents in the area expressed shock over the incident, with one local saying it was unsettling to have something like this happen so close to home.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any safety hazards they may observe in their communities.
