China’s top legislative body, the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), is set to hold its 13th session from December 21 to 25 in Beijing. The decision came on Friday during a meeting of the Council of Chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, led by Chairman Zhao Leji.
During this session, lawmakers will delve into important draft laws and revisions. They are scheduled to review draft revisions to the law on people’s congress deputies, a draft value-added tax law, and revisions to the supervision law. Additionally, they will consider various proposals submitted by NPC departments and the State Council.
The agenda also includes hearing reports on critical national matters. Lawmakers will receive updates on financial audit work, disaster and emergency response funds, and farmland protection, with reports submitted by the State Council, the National Commission of Supervision, and NPC departments.
The meeting on Friday also saw the review and principled adoption of key tasks for the NPC Standing Committee, including its legislative work plan, oversight responsibilities, and external affairs for 2025. Additionally, they deliberated on a report concerning the NPC Standing Committee’s efforts to maintain contact with NPC deputies in 2024.
This upcoming session underscores China’s ongoing efforts to refine its legislative processes and address pressing national issues through comprehensive review and discussion.
