Beijing, China — China has firmly opposed the latest round of U.S. tariff hikes on certain Chinese goods, pledging to take decisive measures to safeguard its rights and interests. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed its strong objections on Monday following the U.S. Trade Representative’s announcement of increased tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.
The new tariffs target imports from China, including tungsten products, wafers, and polysilicon. China’s Ministry of Commerce highlighted that the World Trade Organization (WTO) has already ruled these tariffs as violations of international trade regulations.
“The tariff measures taken by the U.S. will not solve its trade deficit,” stated the ministry. “Instead, they harm U.S. consumers and severely disrupt the international economic order, affecting global industrial and supply chains.”
China is urging the United States to “immediately correct its wrongdoing and remove the additional tariffs imposed.” The ministry emphasized its commitment to take “resolute measures” to defend its legitimate rights and interests in response to the U.S. actions.
Trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies have escalated in recent years, impacting global markets and economic stability. Observers are closely watching how this development will influence international trade relations and economic growth, especially in the Global South.
