China’s Wang Yi Vows to Make Nation a Global Force for Peace and Inclusion

In a significant address at a foreign policy symposium in Beijing on Tuesday, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged to position the nation as a global force for peace, unity, openness, justice, and inclusion.

Speaking at the Symposium on the International Situation and China’s Foreign Relations in 2024, Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s commitment to building a community with a shared future for mankind. He highlighted the country’s active efforts in restoring world peace and saving human lives.

Regarding global conflicts, Wang reiterated China’s objective and impartial stance on the Ukraine crisis, advocating for peace and negotiations. On the Gaza conflict, he called for an immediate comprehensive ceasefire and cessation of hostilities. He stressed the importance of humanitarian aid and identified the realization of the two-state solution as the fundamental path to peace.

The foreign minister affirmed China’s role as a steadfast force for peace. He urged the incoming U.S. administration to collaborate with China, eliminate interference, overcome obstacles, and strive for stable, healthy, and sustainable development in China-U.S. relations. Wang also expressed intentions to deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation with Russia and promote China-EU relations based on independence, mutual achievement, and global benefit.

Highlighting five key accomplishments of China’s diplomacy over the past year, Wang noted:

  1. Head-of-state diplomacy has led trends in peace, development, and win-win cooperation.
  2. New breakthroughs in building a community with a shared future for humanity and promoting global solidarity.
  3. Chinese modernization offering new opportunities for the world and influencing modernization efforts in other countries.
  4. Strengthened cooperation with other developing nations, fostering unity in the Global South.
  5. Progress in diplomacy by deepening the comprehensive diplomatic agenda and building a new type of international relations.

Wang Yi emphasized that China’s diplomacy in 2024 has created a favorable external environment for the nation’s high-quality development and brought valuable stability to a volatile world.
