Athens Deputy Mayor Impressed by Beijing’s Harmony of History and Modernity

At the 2024 Beijing Forum on Swift Response to Public Complaints, Athens Deputy Mayor Andreas Grammatikogiannis shared his admiration for Beijing’s unique blend of history and modernity. He described the Chinese capital as an “open space museum,” highlighting how iconic landmarks like Tian’anmen Square and the Great Wall stand alongside cutting-edge skyscrapers in a vibrant urban landscape.

“Walking through Beijing feels like journeying through time,” Grammatikogiannis said. “The city’s ability to preserve its rich cultural heritage while embracing modern advancements is truly remarkable.”

The Deputy Mayor’s remarks came during his visit to the forum, where global leaders gathered to discuss innovative approaches to public service and urban development. His observations shed light on Beijing’s efforts to maintain its historical sites even as it rapidly modernizes.
