Envoy China Ready to Play Constructive Role in Syrias Stability

China Offers Constructive Role in Stabilizing Syria

China has announced its readiness to play a constructive role in helping Syria achieve peace and restore stability, amid recent drastic changes in the country’s situation. Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, emphasized this commitment during a UN Security Council briefing on Tuesday.

“It is imperative to stabilize the security situation,” Geng stated, urging all parties in Syria to exercise calm and restraint. He called on them to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions and to prevent new conflicts from arising.

The Chinese envoy expressed hope that Syrian state institutions would remain operational to facilitate the restoration of social order. He also encouraged influential countries, especially those in the region, to contribute constructively to stabilizing the situation in Syria.

Addressing humanitarian concerns, Geng highlighted the worsening crisis in Syria due to recent developments. He called on all parties to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access and to support the operations of UN agencies. Additionally, he urged the lifting of unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.

Geng voiced “grave concerns” over recent airstrikes by Israel in Syria and actions in the Golan Heights, calling on Israel to cease activities that could further destabilize the region.

Reiterating China’s longstanding policy of non-interference, Geng affirmed China’s respect for the choices made by the Syrian people. He emphasized that the ultimate solution lies in a political settlement, supporting Syria’s implementation of Security Council Resolution 2254 and encouraging inclusive dialogue for national reconstruction.

“The will of the Syrian people should be respected to avoid national division and fragmentation,” he stressed. Geng also underscored the importance of combating terrorism, asserting that Syrian territory should not be used to support terrorist activities or threaten other nations’ security.

Concluding his remarks, Geng affirmed China’s sincere hope for Syria’s swift return to peace and stability. “China is ready to play a constructive role to that end,” he declared.
